Description of our Results
We surveyed a total of 150 people from around area of Smithfield and on campus.
Because of the surveying of people on campus the question of residency is favored
away from Rhode Island. Therefore 50 people are from RI and 100 are not. The average
age was 28.02, max age was 79, and min age was 18. Of the 150 people 94 were male and
56 were female. We found that 93.33% of the 150 surveyed did not hear of FreeMarketRI.com
before our survey(140 of the 150 didnt know). We also found that after describing what
FreeMarketRI.com was 105 people said they would use its services and 45 said they wouldnt.
After asking if they knew the situation of the landfill in RI 46% said yes and 54% said no.
When we asked how many items were thrown away that could have been donated the results
found 88 people said they did 0-3 times, 36 people said 4-5 times, 26 people said 6+ times.
We finally asked if the items that were put on FreeMarketRI.com would go to the Katrina
victims, would they use the service then? There was a 6% increase in yes and a 6% decrease
in no.
