Abstract

FreeMarketRI.com is a program that deals with the waste management problems of people’s unwanted goods by giving them a platform for free-trade. A survey was constructed and administrated to various potential users; from this information the group was able to devise a better marketing campaign strategy for FreeMarkerRI.com that would also benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The results show that a great number of individuals are not aware of such a program and if did, would take advantage. Therefore, this would decrease the waste thrown in the Rhode Island Landfill and increase the good’s coming into FreeMarketRI.com.

About FreeMarketRI.com

(FreeMarketRI.com)

The Free Market is a listing service for residents who want to give or get free reusable goods for the home, garage and garden. It is part of an effort to reduce the amount of reusable goods being thrown away. Businesses, schools, colleges, non-profits and government agencies should utilize the ResourceXchange.org materials exchange. By using Free Market individuals will save money and save the environment.

Free Market is a great resource for budding businesses and families just getting started. Items that a family or business would normally have to mortgage the future to receive can be obtained for free, and at the same time add an extra layer of use to discarded items that normally would be thrown into the landfill. "One person’s trash is another’s treasure."

Besides helping families furnish their apartments and budding businesses get a jump start, it also helps people that may have fallen between the cracks. People who can’t get welfare and who live paycheck to paycheck can use this resource to their benefit. It can give these people resources that may have been out of their reach normally.

Overall the Free Market can be used to gather resources that are necessary for everyday life, while saving the Rhode Island environment. Rhode Island is one of the smallest states in the union, but Rhode Island has one of the largest landfills in the United States. Hopefully by more and more people using this resource less trash will be dumped in to the Johnston landfill, there by hasting the development of a new landfill site.
